Fostering a dog

Princess would love another dog to be her playmate. It was extra sad to say goodbye to Farson in Utah where she spent about 3 months sleeping, eating, playing and vacationing with him. They went antelope hunting, swimming, birthday partying, hiking and boating together and she just loved his company.

We came back to Oregon and she was sad.
The ball was destroyed in minutes.

When she was vacationing, I came across an opportunity to adopt another Shiba.

The dog's name is Saki.

He is a good looking tri color Shiba Inu, twice Princess size and is a complete sweetheart. He came to us dirty and with overgrown nails and quite skinny. We took him in for a bath and some professional nail trimming. He was crying bloody murder at the salon. Have you ever heard of a Shiba scream? You would have thought we were killing him. But we made it through the process without anyone getting bit. Praise the Lord!

Treat?
It has been a week and he is adjusting very well to the new family routine, making himself at home. Princess and him love to do their Shiba 500 (well its really Shiba 1000 now) and Princess seems to enjoy his companion in times.

Saki is a unique Shiba in the sense that he actually likes people very much and he loves affection and he hasn't exhibited much dominance or aggression towards Princess. They get along so incredibly well since Day 2, I still can't believe there are 2 Shibas in my house and things can be so ...peaceful.

We have to decide if we want to adopt Saki and make him part of our family soon or we will have to give him back to the original foster to find him a permanent home. Hubby is already in love with the dog but he hasn't been good with taking care of him. Maybe men in general aren't born to be care takers even for dogs, I don't know. It is a huge decision, after all, we are committing to caring for another dog for the rest of his life rain or shine.

Can I please jump in the bed?
I still remember  moments of despair I felt when Princess needed surgeries when I was without a job. But looking back, it all worked out, I am not starving and she is still very well taken care of.

We will have to decide. In the mean time, please enjoy the cuteness.

I will take a nap with you on the couch.
