Hong Kong, my city.

My heart and my eye swelled as I watched my Facebook news feed. What started out as a peaceful protest for universal suffrage was greeted by the Hong Kong police with tear gas and violence. Majority of the protesters were students and they had their bare hands, goggles, wet towels and  umbrellas as defend. I ached for their pains and admired their courage. The students were undeterred. After one of the organizers (17 years old) was arrested, the city finally couldn't hold it in any longer.

Citizens from all walks of life join in the protest and voice their demand. #OccupyCentral turned into #OccupyHongKong with schools and organizations joining in the boycott. Organizers lose control of the situation very quickly and now much of the organizations are done by individuals who decide to take the lead. Police force slowly retrieve because they are completely out numbered.

I see hope in Hong Kong's future. Citizens finally decide to stand up and step up. People are bonded by a unified goal and that is a beautiful sight. The Hong Kong Chief Executive has shown himself to be a coward and a puppet. (I could write more about him but he doesn't deserve to take up more of my blog real estate). This protest has turned into something that no one could have predicted or imagined. Unfortunately for the Chinese government, anything they do will only arose more negative emotions and international media attention.

I am so proud of you, you stand up for what you believe. Remember David and Goliath? We will prevail. My heart is with you, always and always.
