I got my green card end of July. Ryan and I went through the immigration interview earlier that week. It was a long time coming. It took eight months to schedule that interview. We never expected it would take THAT LONG. We did the application by ourselves and didn't hire an attorney and I signed up for an immigration forum to keep up with getting updates from and providing updates to people who apply around the same time I did. Majority of the people were already done with their interviews and received their green cards while I was still waiting for my....interview. Serious, why it took so long, I have no clue.
The interview was uneventful. The actual interview took 5 minutes and the rest of the time was used by the interviewer to sift through all the paper work we submitted.
Well, freedom comes after getting my status straightened out. My life would never be tied to my job anymore and the worst an employer can do to me is to fire me but they can't TAKE MY LIFE AWAY.
(I am sitting pretty here, purring on my couch.)
This marks the beginning of a new chapter of my life. You know if you were in survival mode, it was hard to FEEL things because you were so focus on just staying above the water,on performing well at your job.
And now all of a sudden, I have feelings again and that's a good feeling to have.
