First month in NYC

I fell asleep on a midnight train, exhausted and you woke me up before my stop. You don’t know me but you know I will get into deep trouble getting off on a wrong train station.

I need a temporary apartment; you let me stay at your basement apartment for a dime a day. It is completely renovated, it is beautiful.

It was my first day at work; my first day in the city really; you took me out to dinner just to show me where the good lunch spots were.

I walked into the laundromat looking lost and confused; you showed me exactly what I needed to do. There was no verbal exchange, we didn’t speak the same language.

I thank you NYC, you have been kind.
