A Very Special Day

Graduation day was coming around the corner, and people at the dog park were bugging me about going to my graduation. I thought, it was only graduation, the most fun and exciting part of my education was done and over with. It always seemed silly to me that we all dressed up as part of the Harry Potter casting crew without the magic wands, all for spending 5 seconds on stage shaking several hands. Last time I did that, my rope was caught in the handrail, I almost tore my rope to get myself down the stage! Fortunately, it was all on tape and I can savor that moment anytime I want.

Anyways, since the dog park people were making such a big deal out of it, I invited them and several others to come to my graduation and told them to call me when they get to the venue so they can find me. I didn't even care to bring a camera.

It was my time to walk on stage and I was thinking "no tripping in my heels and no more getting my rope caught anywhere". I shook numerous hands, Professor E. gave me a big hug and friends were cheering.

Then my aunties and uncles (everyone that is around your parents' age in my culture are all aunties and uncles) called to find me. Auntie L. made my a beautiful lei that smelled really good. Then Auntie F. called and she brought a dozen of orange roses! Then friend C. called to let me know he got here from Denver! Then my dog park friends called and wanted to take pictures with me before they left! And they got me an REI gift card!

All of a sudden, it wasn't silly anymore to be wearing my Harry Potter rope! They made me feel so special. Many of them had to take a day off just to see me walk on that stage for 5 seconds! I was very grateful for their thoughts and efforts. These people care for me and truly did make my day very special.

I learned a lesson that day. If you want something to be special, you make it special.
