Many years ago during my senior year in BYU, I tore my ACL on my very first ski trip ever. The ski patrol gave me a "ride" down the slope on a sled behind a snowmobile. Soon enough, I was on the surgery table getting my knee fixed. That was my first surgery ever and to my surprise, it hurt! Not only did it hurt, I was sick for two long weeks, vomiting and losing 20 lbs in no time. You wonder where in the world I had 20 lbs to lose but I did! During the same time, my serious boyfriend and I broke up. So both my heart and my body were broken. I could not even sit up without assistance. With the visa issue, it wasn't like my parents could just fly here to help me out.
This Cantonese family from the Chinese ward took me in and let me stay with them for months. Both husband and wife worked and the wife rearranged her schedule so she could take me to rehab every other day. They crammed the daughters in two rooms so I had a bedroom to myself. After much care and love in that household, I was recovering very nicely.
For years, I wonder what in this world I could do for this family to show my appreciation for practically saving my life. And finally, opportunity fell on my lap at the right time. This family have a little Chinese fast food business right next to Sonic and it hasn't been doing very well. No body knows about this business and so nobody goes to eat. They have done some traditional marketing but the impact has been very limited. They are losing so much money every month that they are contemplating selling the business at a huge lose. The father reached out to me for help and I just happen to be taking the most awesome social media marketing class. This is my chance to do something for them to thank them for what they have done for me. I can't be more excited! At the same time, stakes are high and the problem is real.
Is my team going to execute the strategy correctly to gain traction? Is social media going to save this family and their business?

See, now why didn't you tell me this story when you were trying to get me to join your team.
ReplyDeleteCannon, you are supposed to grammar check this post for me. Don't forget.
DeleteYou can do it, Carol! I love them for what they did for you. I remember that time and it was bad.
ReplyDeleteEmily, thank you!
DeleteSocial media marketing at work.
ReplyDeleteI've driven by this place 1000 times and never stopped in, but now with a little back ground information from someone I know my interest is peaked, and I'm going to give it try.
Ok, please let me know what you think.
ReplyDeleteThat is really close to the hospital. I know that restaurant offers discounts to hospital employees already but I don't think anyone really knows about it. I'd try a lunch special aimed at the hospital employees to raise their awareness of it, especially those that work in the Northwest plaza and the Outpatient center.
ReplyDeleteThat will be great! Please let me know how your experience is when you go!
