Goodbye Shady

Today I went to the dog park as usual and saw many of my dog friends and their dogs. I reported to them about the meeting I had earlier today with Provo city Parks and Recreation about a possible dog park and was thrill to know the city was planning to make it part of the city plan. And since the weather was great, we decided that we were going to clean up the park with shovels and bags. We strolled around the park and picked up as much dog poop as we could see.

The dogs were having a good time sniffing around to find poop, especially the hound dogs in the pack. Shady was one of the dogs in the pack. She was a beautiful German Sharped baby who started coming to the park with her family just recently. Shady was happy to be running around and followed us as we made our way around the park. It was seemingly a very uneventful day until all of a sudden Shady fell on the ground. For split second, I thought she was trying to roll on the grass. Chris came running and recognized right away Shady was having seizure like symptoms, e.g. legs twitching, eyes turning glossy, etc. I thought Shady would come out of it soon until we heard this weird dying sound and she relaxed. She was gone. Chris checked her pulse right away. Nothing. Cory checked her pulse again. Nothing. I checked her breathing. Nothing. Shady was gone right in front of our eyes. We were shocked.

By then, everyone was around the cold dead body of Shady and her mom was sobbing. Cory called his brother, who is a vet, frantically looking for ways to help. Shady's mom called her husband right away and we all waited by Shady's body with her two teenage boys.

The husband came running to the park and broke down when he saw Shady's cold body. It was a very sad moment. We all cried. Cindy gave Shady's mom the emergency vet's phone number, we all gave her hugs and her husband picked up Shady in a blanket to the car.

Even the dogs realized what had happened. Princess came right to me as we were leaving the park and was extremely quiet in the car on our way home.

Goodbye Shady, you were gone so quickly, we didn't even have time to say goodbye but we are glad you didn't have to go through too much pain. Princess and I will see you sometime. R.I.P.

  1. You know, even though this story was about a puppy I've never seen, and I've never been big on pets, I gotta say that this story touched me. I'd probably have been shedding a tear if I were there too (I'm a little bit of a sap). Rest in peace, Shady.

  2. I'm heartbroken! I didn't know Shady at all, but I've lost a few dogs in my life that we've had to put down, and had one get hit by a car running in an open field, when I was four right before my eyes. It was very traumatic. So to have a seemingly healthy young dog just drop right before you, I can't imagine. I feel for the family. RIP Shady.
